History

On 1 April 2005 Fujisawa and Yamanouchi officially merged to form Astellas Pharma Inc. The merger has created a company which ranks second in the Japanese pharmaceutical market and is among the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies.

Astellas has five aims in the medium term:

• Enhance the companies' R&D capabilities and resources
• Strengthen the companies' sales and marketing networks in Japan, the US and Europe
• Establish more efficient organisational and cost structures
• Use a strengthened balance sheet to enable strategic and new product investments
• Implement a capital policy to boost enterprise value.

Masafumi Nogimori is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Astellas Pharma Inc. with Co-Chairmen Dr Hatsuo Aoki and Toichi Takenaka. The Astellas European business' Chairman and CEO is Mr Yasuo Ishii . The Astellas Pharma European Headquarters are located in Staines, Middlesex in the UK.
